Really? You can create a new home by decluttering it? If you go the whole hog and get rid of absolutely everything you don’t use any more or simply don’t need, it releases up a whole new range of possibilities and space. You might suddenly feel the urge to redecorate or convert the spare bedroom into an office, for example. When you declutter you really start to get your motivational juices flowing.
How to Declutter
If you want to do it, here’s how. You need to have a plan.
- Firstly, make a list of all the different kinds of clutter you have. This can be clothes, shoes, books, electrical equipment, old furniture, kid’s toys, anything you like.
- Next, pick a time to declutter properly. You might want to do it all in one go over a weekend, say, or you may want to split it up into bite sized, manageable chunks. Either way, make sure you choose a time when you are focused to achieve your main aim.
- Be strict with yourself. No declutter was ever achieved by someone who was unwilling to throw stuff out. Do you really need that particular item? When was the last time you used it? Once you’ve made your choice, stick to it.
- Once you have chosen items to get rid of, the best thing to do is get that done quickly. Don’t leave it to sit there so that you’ll change your mind later. You can repurpose a lot of stuff by giving it to friends, local second hand stores or charities. You can even make a little extra money and have a yard sale.
Decluttering your home can be a cathartic experience and leave you feeling much more at ease with the world and energized to face the future. It doesn’t mean getting rid of everything you own, it means creating space so that you can enjoy life better.
